Episode 69: MAking Friends with Your Inner Critic: Stop “Shoulding” Yourself
In this episode of Powered by Joy Podcast, we dive into the habit of “shoulding” ourselves, aka self-criticizing and how it can be the first voice we hear in our heads when we feel like we didn’t “get it right”. Have you ever paused long enough to see if that voice is really yours? Did it start as the voice of a bully, or teacher or parent saying something that felt critical? Maybe it started before you can remember so it sounds like it’s your own voice. Either way, most of of us spend more time noticing when we are messing up or not doing enough.
It’s much more common than the voice being positive and finding all the wins and successes you have accomplished. We often forget to give ourselves credit for all the growth and progress we HAVE made. We are not taught to celebrate our choices that align with our dreams and desires and goals, even the tiny wins that add up to success!
This is about noticing that self-criticizing and getting curious, not judging anymore! None of us are perfect and we are all here being human, learning and doing our best. So it’s time for curiousity and compassion.
Tune in for some tips and tools to get into a new awareness so you can start being your own best cheerleader! Celebrating and choosing to appreciate even the small wins in your life.
